Description Allen Winter 2004-04-05 17:02:31 UTC
Version: (using KDE Devel)
OS: Linux

Select "File->New Mail" from Summary View.

Start Compose message.

Forget that you are in the middle of composing message
and quit kontact.

At this point, kontact (kmail) should ask if you
want to discard message, or save as draft. Instead,
kontact just quits. Luckily for me kmail is smart
enough to restart with the draft for me.

Yes I can reproduce this.
Maybe it is better to ask if you still want to close Kontact if a composer is open, with a checkbox for saving the setting for the future.

Oh please no. I so much prefer messages being automatically saved and restored than having to manually deal with a message box for each composer when I want to quit.

Changing to wishlist as the current behavior is very much expected/desired.

Don.

That qualifies for a wontfix then.
Comment 4 Christoph Wickert 2010-05-03 13:37:06 UTC
IMHO this is not a wishlist or wontfix item but should at least be treated as a bug because
- the behavior is inconsistent: If you close the composer window, the 'save' save dialog appears. If you close the main window, the composer window is closed too, but the dialog does not appear. How can this behavior be "expected/desired"?
- According to https://bugs.kde.org/page.cgi?id=fields.html#bug_severity "data loss" is defined as a "critical bug" and we do have data loss here.
Comment 5 Christoph Wickert 2010-05-03 13:42:24 UTC
Just to be clear about this: For me, the expected behavior is that the composer window gets focused and I get the normal 'Close composer'. After I made a choice there, Kontact should be closed - or not If I select 'Cancel'.

Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented.
Thank you for your understanding.
Comment 7 Luigi Toscano 2012-08-19 00:54:09 UTC
Instead of creating a new feature request, please confirm here if the wishlist is still valid for kmail2.
Comment 8 Christoph Wickert 2012-08-22 19:58:32 UTC
Yes it is. The bug is no longer critical as drafts are now saved and no data is lost, but still showing the "Close window" popup dialog and offering a choice would be best.
Comment 9 Allen Winter 2019-07-30 21:05:16 UTC
still valid
