Yeah, and Adobe put in jail the guy who found out how that worked...
No thanks, I won't take the same risks.

You need to bug Adobe and ask them to release the spec for this in the open,
otherwise it won't happen.

The PDF specification is actually publically available:
http://partners.adobe.com/asn/tech/pdf/specifications.jsp

Acrobat does mention a lot of patents when it loads though...

Maybe I'm missing a trick but it seems odd that this is filed against KOffice rather than Okular.
work is being done on Okular (and the underlying library poppler) to allow many more features, notably form handling which I assume is the same as inputfields and I see no reason why the other features mentioned would not be improved too.

I'm not quite sure how these features fit in with how Koffice works on PDF, since there is an import stage and an export stage and in between the document is no longer really a PDF but a Koffice document.

Perhaps this request needs to be marked as Invalid or Wontfix or features such as encryption need to be requested in a more general form which doesn't actually have anything to do with PDF?

this seems to be a report involving both pdf creation and viewing. as such, it is almost impossible to handle.
i'd suggest marking as a dupe of bug 91809 (for input fields).

if the original features aren't yet implemented in corresponding products, original reporter probably should split these up specifying which product should do what.

Bjoern: Can you break this bug report into a range of issues? "full pdf support" is just a bit underdefined :-)

You did identify "sign, crypt, inputfields and comment existing pdfs". Are you looking for something more than a PDF viewer like Okular (only additional features)? The main issue is that Okular can't (currently) modify files, and that is quite difficult to fix.

Opening and editing existing PDFs is not really KOffice domain, it best it will import a pdf to convert it to ODF, but the bugreport kind of belongs to an app like okular.
