Description gerard 2004-03-28 10:57:17 UTC
Version:            (using KDE KDE 3.2.0)
OS:          Linux

In kioslaves documentations (kinfocenter / protocols), there are links to the other documentations (prev, next, up, etc.) at the bottom of the pages.
These links point to /home/xxx/protocolxxx.html in a new konqueror window, instead of staying in kinfocenter window. Since the xxx file does not exist, the only thik you get when you click on a link is a Konqueror window showing an error message.

Should be nice to have a fix !

Thanks

Gerard

Works for me in KDE 3.3.2. I walked through the entire prev and next buttons - no link problems here.

Brief search through kde-cvs mailing list did not turn up any reported fixes.

Please submit another report if you are still having trouble
Comment 2 gerard 2005-03-05 08:36:24 UTC
Thanks for testing, but it don't work on my Mandrake 10.1 + KDE 3.4.0 (Beta2).

When I read bzip2 documentation, I click on "Next", and I get a Konqueror open, with the URL "file:///home/kde/cgi.html", and a page showing

An error occurred while loading file:///home/kde/cgi.html:
The file or folder /home/kde/cgi.html does not exist.

If I click on "Home" or "Up", I get a "file:///home/kde/index.html" page ,showing

An error occurred while loading file:///home/kde/index.html:
The file or folder /home/kde/index.html does not exist.

(My kde 3.4 is installed on a special user called kde, in /home/kde).
I have the same problem with my kde 3.3, installed in /usr, but I get simply a message box saying /home/foo/xxx.html does not exist.

Shold be surprising I would be the only one to have this problem...

Thanks

Gerard

P.S.
Should be cool to have an easy access to the original language (english), in case the user suspects the translation not to be perfect.

Hello,

Same problem here with a home made compiled KDE 3.3.2 on Slackware 9.1. The links open a new Konqueror Window searching for an html file in my home directory. (~/bzip.html for example). My KDE live in /opt/kde.
Comment 4 Sebastien Renard 2005-03-05 12:12:47 UTC
I've also tested with a fresh KDE 3.4 rc1 build with Konstruct and I have the same problem.
I've also switch my system to english (C) in the control center and the problem si still there ; so it is no directly caused by French Translation.
Comment 5 gerard 2005-03-05 12:26:08 UTC
Another member of the french team has the same problem on kde 3.3.2, Debian.

I can also repeat this problem with KDE 3.3.2 on FreeBSD 5.3, standard software installation, much-modified $KDEHOME

Also repeatable with a standard CVS build of KDE_3_4_BRANCH, on a pristine new user, using default KDE options.

Clearly not resolved, re-opening.

Comment 7 Nicolas Ternisien 2005-03-05 13:32:47 UTC
Same problem occurs on my computer (Mdk Cooker / KDE 3.3.2).
Comment 8 Mike McBride 2005-03-05 16:45:12 UTC
Sorry, I did not understand what the original bug report was referring to.

I have looked into this further. The documentation is correctly processed by meinproc and is installed correctly in directory: share/doc/HTML/en/kioslave.

I believe the problem is that kinfocenter does not correctly display the documentation using the appropriate kpart.

I would recommend moving this bug over to "infocenter" where it can be fixed.... (unless I am still confused)

Yes, I believe this is the problem too - infocenter seems to be referencing
the user's home directory rather than the doc path.

There are no more links, so they cannot be dead !

Thanks for the removal !

Very confusing comments to this bugreport, until I realized, that there are
different views for ioslave documentation.

To clarify the situation, here a list of all different views of ioslave
documentation on a system with 3.5.6 compiled from sources with all kde main
modules:

1. minicli or konquerors location bar: help:/kioslave/index.html
IO-Slaves
Table of Contents
list of links to all ioslave documentation in kdebase:
bzip, bzip2, cgi, data, file, finger, fish, floppy, ftp, gopher, gzip,
help, http, https, imap, imaps, info, lan, ldap, mac, mailto,
man, mrml, news, nfs, nntp, pop3, pop3s, print, rlan, rlogin, sftp,
smb, smtp, tar, telnet, thumbnail, webdav, webdavs, zip (added by me)

usual helpcenter view with blue header and footer with "Would you like... KDE
Docs Team" + Prev, Next, Up+Home.
Next + Prev links work.
Up and Home both link to help:/kioslave/index.html, one should be removed

gopher no longer in the kde main modules, lives now
in /extragear/network/kio_gopher/gopher.protocol, docs should be moved
to /extragear/network/doc

Some docs are for ioslaves outside kdebase:
kdenetwork (lan, rlan), kdepim (imap, imaps,news), kdegraphics (mrml)

2. khelpcenter->Kioslaves
list of all ioslaves from no 1 + audiocd (I have a fix for 106066)
+ other ioslaves (ar, groupwise, groupwises, mbox, nntps, nxfish)
missing from no 1 gopher, help, smb

ioslave documentation articles from kdebase + audiocd + nntps (link to nntp
docs) + nxfish (link to fish docs)

View as in no 1.
Prev + Next link work, Home+Up->help:/kioslave/index.html
audiocd has no Prev, Next, Home, Up links

No docs for ar + groupwise[s], error message
"Could not find filename foo.html in
file:///$KDEDIRS/share/doc/HTML/en//kioslave/foo.html"
No docs for mbox, error message
"There is no documentation available for /index.html."

3. kcmshell ioslaveinfo or KInfocenter->Protocols
list of all ioslaves from no 1 + about, aim, applications, ar, atlantik,
audiocd, camera, feed, fonts, ghelp, groupwise, groupwises, invitation, irc,
jabber, ldaps, mbox, media, metainfo, mms, mmst, mmsu, ms-its, nntps, nxfish,
perldoc, pnm, printdb, programs, pydoc, rdp, remote, rtsp, rtspt, rtspu,
settings, sieve, smpts, ssh, svn, svn+file, svn+htp, svn+https, svn+ssh,
system, trash, vnc, webcal, zeroconf, zip.

missing from no 1 gopher, smb.

ar+audiocd no message, all others "Some info about protocol foo:/ ..."

ioslave docs from kdebase/docs are displayed, but wrong:
Prev+Next -> opens file:///home/kdestable/foo.html in konqueror
Home+Up -> opens file:///home/kdestable/index.html
no blue header or footer bar, Next,Home,Up scrambled, two grey squares at
bottom left (are this the blue header and footer bars?)
and
"Would you like to make a comment or contribute an update to this page?
Send feedback to the KDE Docs Team" at bottom

no ar + audiocd docs? Why?

4. helpcenter->Information->Protocols +
khelpcenter->KInfoCenterModules->Protocols open
help:/kinfocenter/protocols/index.html

Bugs in the views:
no 1: gopher doc is obsolete, Home+Up are the same link.
no 2: Prev,Next,Home,Up links work, but only for ioslave docs from kdebase,
docs from other modules like audiocd do not have this link, this is
irritating.
no 3: scrambled view, links not working. Even with working links this a very
confusing view, as the links Prev+Next do not correspond to the list on the
left, but to the order in view no 1.

Possible solution:
Change all ioslave documentations from articles to complete documentations,
remove kioslave/index.docbook and view no 1.
Move all docs for ioslaves outside kdebase from kdebase to the corresponding
modules as I have done for audiocd.

In all other views (no 2 and 3) navigate with the list on the left as in a lot
of configuration dialogs.
