Version:           v0.9.5 (using KDE 3.2.1, SuSE)
Compiler:          gcc version 3.3.1 (SuSE Linux)
OS:          Linux (i686) release 2.4.21-199-default

I select "Clear Clipboard History". After that, the menu closes. LMB clicking on the klipper tray icon now does nothing unless I select something first. Only then LMB on klipper opens the menu again.

Misbehaviour still present in 3.3 release (Suse Linux 9.1 precompiled release binaries, Klipper v0.9.6)

I also experience this behavior with qt-3.3.3 and KDE cvs of 2004-09-03
