Description Frank Luithle 2004-03-15 19:12:50 UTC
Version: 1.6.1 (using KDE 3.2.1, (testing/unstable))
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.3 (Debian)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.2

When replying to mails where I myself am the sender (usually all mails in the "sent mail" folder for example), the default recipient should be the recipient of the mail being replied to. Currently the default recipient is myself, which is logical but useless.

Commonly one wants to make additional remarks to an Email one has sent to somebody when replying to one's own messages, so the current behavior is not useful.
Comment 1 Adam Wiggins 2004-07-20 10:22:54 UTC
Yes, this is one of the few features I am missing in my recent switch to KMail. Evolution, for example, has this behavior.
Comment 2 Tristan Miller 2005-06-07 16:54:10 UTC
Confirming bug still exists in KMail 1.8.
Comment 3 Petr Pudlák 2008-01-21 18:04:20 UTC
I'd also appreciate this feature, which I still miss in kmail 1.9.7.
GMail, for example, has this behavior too and sometimes it's quite convenient.
Comment 4 Danny van Delft 2008-09-15 10:17:05 UTC
partial workaround: use "Reply to all", shortcut A.
Comment 5 Tristan Miller 2008-11-24 23:33:25 UTC
Confirming bug still exists in KMail 1.9.9.
Comment 6 Tristan Miller 2009-04-25 23:39:46 UTC
Confirming feature still missing from KDE 4.2.2.

Fall back to original recipient if sender is a local identity
Comment 9 Roland Tapken 2010-01-07 23:03:40 UTC
I've attached a small patch to change KMail's (very annoying) behaviour when
replying to mails in 'sent' folder. When answering to a mail sent by myself I
normally intend to sent additional information to the original receipment, but
if I'm not using "Reply to all" the message will be sent to myself.

This patch checks wether the "From" address belongs to any of my own
identities. If this is true, it uses the value of the original "To" as new
receipment.
Comment 10 Thomas McGuire 2010-01-08 15:35:17 UTC
SVN commit 1071678 by tmcguire:

When replying to a mail that was sent by ourselves, reply to the sender instead
of ourselves, as that is usually a followup to the original mail.

Patch by Roland Tapken <ml at lalamuhkuh dot de>, thanks!

This bug still exists in KDE 4.5. Is the SVN commit mentioned in the previous comment still pending or does this bug need to be reopened?
Comment 12 Björn Ruberg 2010-08-16 13:29:51 UTC
Do you actually use kdepim4.5 packages? May be you have still the 4.4 ones, as kdepim 4.5 is not released yet.
Comment 13 Tristan Miller 2010-08-16 14:55:26 UTC
I've got some packages from 4.4, and some from 4.5 (since that's what the openSUSE 11.3 Factory repository provides):

$ rpm -qa|fgrep kdepim|sort
kdepim4-4.4.5-236.4.x86_64
kdepim4-runtime-4.4.5-52.8.x86_64
kdepim4-wizards-4.4.5-236.4.x86_64
kdepimlibs4-4.5.0-174.2.x86_64
libkdepim4-4.4.5-236.4.x86_64
