Description Carsten Schlipf 2004-03-04 17:17:18 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.0)
OS: Linux

Usually people have to deal with the same persons frequently. Now, if you look for a name like "John Miller" by entering the name in the (To, Cc, Bcc) address fields and are searching a corporate LDAP server, the resulting list is very, very long, if you enter John. In addition to that, there might be more than just on John Miller.

It would be great, if Kmail could remember the selected address and next time I enter "Joh" in the address field, the list will be like

"John Miller"
-------------
"John Aston"
"John Altaire"
....
"John Zeta"

(Note, all names are fictive)

This would be even better, if Kmail could remember how often, I've selected John Miller. So if I send more emails to "John Miller" than to "John Altaire", the list will look like:

"John Miller"
"John Altaire"
-------------
"John Aston"
....
"John Zeta"

So, the names above the separator line are the ones, I already sent email to and these names are ordered by relevance. All other found names are listed below the separator line and are ordered alphabetically.

I have the impression that Mozilla Mail and Outlook are already doing this, and it's very helpful, when working with large LDAP directories.

I guess we just have to show the most recently used addresses that match _before_ the addresses from the address book that match.
Comment 2 Carsten Schlipf 2004-03-04 20:10:11 UTC
Yes, showing the most recently used addresses would also be great and sufficient and probably much simplier to implement.

It could even be that this behaviour would be more transparent to the user.

Any possibility to get the "recent addresses" listed before the the
addresses found in the ldap server. I second this wish/bug report.
Would be nice to see this implemented in the kde-3.5 series.

Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented.
Thank you for your understanding.
Comment 5 Luigi Toscano 2012-08-19 00:55:39 UTC
Instead of creating a new feature request, please confirm here if the wishlist is still valid for kmail2.
