Description S. Umar 2004-02-09 17:00:16 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.0)
Installed from: RedHat RPMs
Compiler: gcc-3.3.2
OS: Linux

Whenever I update an application (logged in as regular user and
updating via su) that changes/modifies a .desktop file, the next
time I click on the K-menu the kicker crashes. It sometimes comes
back and works ok. Other times it comes back and crashes again
and it does not restart.

Happens everytime. Is is kbuildsycoca or something related?
Comment 1 S. Umar 2004-02-09 17:05:23 UTC
It seems like this has to do with the permissions of /var/tmp or
/var/tmp/kde-user ! recreating kbuildsycoca. What should be those
permissions?
Comment 2 John Firebaugh 2004-02-09 17:53:30 UTC
drwxrwxrwt 5 root root 4096 Feb 8 23:34 /var/tmp/
drwx------ 6 john john 4096 Feb 9 04:13 /var/tmp/kdecache-john

But please post the crash backtrace.

Never mind, this is a dup.
