Version:            (using KDE KDE 3.1.94)
Installed from:    Gentoo Packages
Compiler:          gcc version 3.2.3 20030422 (Gentoo Linux 1.4 3.2.3-r3, propolice)
 
OS:          Linux

When you go to menu->settings->configure shortcuts-> show terminal
And then choose key kombination: ctrl+alt+y for it, then this setting disappears when you stop kate and start it again. 
As a result you should set this shortcut everytime you start kate to be able to use it.

I expect , that kate will save this shortcut forever.
