Description Sashmit Bhaduri 2003-12-09 06:26:29 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1.94)
Installed from: Compiled From Sources

sorry for lumping a few things in bug report.. I have a few problems with khotkeys2' control panel in beta2.

- There seems to be double the amount of margin between the widgets and the outer dialog/kcm container than usual.

- It's quite hard to see the name of a given action without using a horizontal scrollbar. I definatly don't think the default name (New Action) should require a horizontal scrollbar :-P

- The splitter is quite useless. I see why it's there - so the actions listview can be resized, but it doesn't do that.

- There is a groupbox around the actions listview. If it is to be labeled, I think a label should be used instead.

- Are comment fields really necessary? I'd think the name would be enough. I think they should be removed.

- poor usage of layouts -- the tabs that have "New"/"Modify"/"Copy"/"Delete", etc.. should have the buttons aligned with the top, and a vertical spacer underneath. Some tabs, like Command/URL Settings, should have a vertical spacer underneath the two widgets. It resizes very horribly without one.

- in the info tab, remove the big "KHotKeys" text. Kcontrol shows this right above the tabwidget now, so it looks weird. I don't think users will need to know the specific version number either, since it's included with KDE and nonlonger standalone.

I think just fixing the above issues would make the khotkeys kcm more suitable for a final release of KDE 3.2.

Almost all of the complex widgets are built using Qt Designer, so if you want, you can fix them (kdebase/khotkeys/kcontrol/ui) and send me patches.
The comment fields describe the example actions, and I consider them essential also because some of the actions can get quite complex.
