Description Arkadiusz Miskiewicz 2003-12-02 15:31:38 UTC
Version: 1.5.93 (using KDE Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources
Compiler: gcc 3.3.2
OS: Linux

When I have account with ,,requires auth'' marked but server doesn't advertise SMTP AUTH then kmail tries to auth anyway even if in such case it doesn't have to. My Exim returns error ,,AUTH command used when not advertised''.

IMO in such case kmail shouldn't sent AUTH even if it's specified in account properties because smtp server doesn't announce that is supports authorization.

Our IMAP server requires (and advertises) AUTH when connected to from
outside the local domain. From within the local domain, AUTH is not
required, and not advertised. Kmail should not attempt authentication when
the server does not advertise AUTH. As it is, I need to manually turn on
and off the 'requires authentication' box for the smtp server when I boot my laptop at work or at home (i.e. at least twice a day).

In pre-3.2 kmail, this worked fine - When the 'requires authorization' box
was checked for the IMAP server, authentification was only used when the
server advertised it.

Can you recheck this with a newer kmail release?
