Description Daniel Stone 2003-11-28 02:01:04 UTC
Hi,
I was disappointed today to type 'db.d.o' in Konqueror and realize that it did not, in fact,
work. Using 'd.o', 'k.o', 'fd.o', everywhere is starting to take its toll, I think. So, stupid
feature request time - how about arbitrary expansion in KIO? Something like '(.*)\.d\.o$'
-> '\1.debian.org'?

I know this idea is cracked out and probably sucks - it was a very long night last night,
and I didn't sleep, either.

Cheers,
Daniel

Not that I'm suggesting any expansions should be built into KIO, mind - I'm asking for complete configurability, a la Klipper.

What about adding those entries to /etc/hosts?

a) Doesn't work for proxies;
b) IPs change occasionally;
c) master, gluck, klecker, vore, bugs, packages, packages.qa, qa,
   standard, base, pergolesi, murphy, lists, www, ftp-master, auric,
   incoming, people, etc, etc, ad nauseum.

I meant putting the alias in /etc/hosts, not the numeric IP.

Yes, that's the only difference.

Does that work? Either way, it still breaks for proxies.

Sorry?

David, do you have a yea/nay on this bug? It's bitrotting in the bug list.

Well it's a wishlist. Wishlist items are supposed to bitrot :)

To answer the question about /etc/hosts: yes, shortcut aliases work fine there,
I use that every day.
e.g.
10.0.0.2                asterix as
allows me to type "as" anywhere (ping, ssh, kde, etc.)

Yes, that doesn't help with wildcards, so your suggested feature might have a sense.

Comment 8 Daniel Stone 2004-04-03 17:14:43 UTC
It also doesn't work when you're behind proxies, FWIW. Between that and wildcarding, this is where it really makes sense to me.

Is this still relevant or applicable with KDE Frameworks 5.45?
