Version: 4.0 (using KDE 3.1.93 (CVS >= 20031111), compiled sources) Compiler: gcc version 3.3.2 (Debian) OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.0-test7 Sometimes, for no discernable reason, Konqueror goes into a state where there is a flashing vertical bar text cursor, which is moved about using the arrow keys and other keyboard controls. This causes scrolling using the keyboard to not work properly and generally behave in an irritating manner. When this happens, I do not know what I have done to cause it, or how to get rid of it, other than by closing the affected tab. This feature needs to be fixed and/or off by default.
I have no idea what you're talking about. I never saw that.
I discovered that this is triggered by pressing F7. I suggest that it should be possible to cancel this mode by pressing Escape.
That's the caret mode. Not that I know what this is, but it's a feature, not a bug :-)
No. It's a usability bug. Accidentally pressing the wrong key (eg pressing F7 when F6 was intended) puts Konqueror into a strange mode with absolutely no indication of how to make it work normally again. Mozilla opens a dialogue which reads "Pressing F7 turns Caret Browsing on or off. This feature places a moveable cursor in web pages allowing you to select text with the keyboard. Do you want to turn Caret Browsing on? [] Do not show me this dialog again. (Yes) (Cancel)" Mozilla's approach isn't exactly a stellar example of usability, but it's better than Konqueror's approach which essentially forces the user to abandon what he/she is working on and start again.
Confirming. I thought about it when I implemented it, but I wasn't sure whether the dialog should be displayed as part of konqueror, or as part of khtml. Actually, I'm still not sure.
Confirmed in 4.5.4, updating version.
Deassigning myself. This is not a bug. khtml could default to Shift+F7 or "None" instead of F7.
Thank you for the bug report. As this report hasn't seen any changes in 10 years or more, we ask if you can please confirm that the issue still persists. If this bug is no longer persisting or relevant please change the status to resolved.
Dear user, KHTML (and KJS) was a long time more or less unmaintained and got removed in KF6. Please migrate to use a QWebEngine based HTML component. We will do no further fixes or improvements to the KF5 branches of these components beside important security fixes. For security issues, please see: https://kde.org/info/security/ Sorry that we did not fix this issue during the life-time of KHTML. Greetings Christoph Cullmann
