Version: 1.5.93 (using KDE 3.1.93 (3.2 beta 1), compiled sources) Compiler: gcc version 3.3.2 (Debian) OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.0-test9 I've enabled the 'echo 3 stars' option in kcontrol for password boxes. When kmail asks for passwords for pop accounts, it just echoes 1 star per character input. When kmail pops up the dialog box for password for decrypting an encrypted mail, it displays 3 stars per char. entered. Isn't this weird?
Those dialog boxes for the accounts come from the ioslaves. Have you logged out and back in since you've changed this setting? If you haven't, please do so.

Yes; though, I don't think this really could've been an issue, since I got two different behaviors. If the changes weren't applied before logging out, they wouldn't have been applied for any of the dialog box I saw, isn't it?
Although this bug still exists in the development version of KMail, the passwords can now be saved in KWallet, which uses 3 star if you use that...

Reassigning the bugs of the SMTP, IMAP and POP ioslaves to kdepim-bugs.
Is this bug still valid?
Considering fixed as long no one states the opposite.
