Version: (using KDE Devel) Installed from: Compiled sources When I enter the name of a file that does not exists into the status bar with the tar:// prefix then I get the error message that this file does not exists. It would help me a lot if instead I could create a new .tar file (or .tar.gz or tar.bz2 - depending on the filename) this way. For example, instead of saying this file does not exists a message window could pop up: "Do you want to create a new archive ?" and if answered with yes a new archive is created. Greetings, Stefan

It would help me a lot if instead I could create a new .tar file (or .tar.gz or tar.bz2 - depending on the filename) this way. But how would you add items into the archive? Currently tar:// is readonly, so this is a wish for making it able to add files to archive as well, right?

Is there a way to launch an archive program in such a case? Have a nice day!
We might consider launching Ark (or another archive program) in this case, moving to kio-extras as the kio product is now obsolete.
