Version: 0.7.3 (using KDE 3.1.4) Installed from: compiled sources Compiler: gcc version 2.95.3 20010315 (SuSE) OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.18-4GB It would be nice if the passive popup box that can be used for online notifications would also contain a line in small print telling you the previous status, like so: User Foo has come online (was: offline)
(in CVS HEAD, you can already set 3 different sounds if the useris connected, disconnected, or simply change his status)
That's nice, but not a fix (implementation of the wish).
Curious, what is the purpose of this request? I can't see much use for it.
I can't see a reason for it either.
All right, all right. If two of the dev's say they don't want it, ok. It's not like it's the killer feature anyway. I just thought it handy. For me, there is a difference if someone just came online, or someone just came back from getting a cup of coffee. Currently, you can't see that difference. André
Well, not that it's hard to add or something. I really just don't see why this should be important? For me (i.e. me as in me *g*) it's unimportant if somebody just turned on his IM-app or if he just came back from sleep/work/whatever. I just have to know that he _is_ back now and that I can bug/annoy him ;) I'd be happy if you could give us a clear reason why the difference might be important for you.
I'll take a stab at justifying this request. The issue is primarily one of etiquette within one's IM community. I find that when I just sit down and log on it is a bit unsettling to get IMed just seconds after. I equate it to coming home and having the phone ring just as I'm about to drop my backpack. Yes, I am home, and yes, I will answer the phone.... but gee wouldn't it have been great if I could have a few minutes to settle first. This, I think, is different when someone is away. Away messages are a strange transitory status that is not quite equivalent to turning on your computer for the first time. As a result, receiving a message seconds after I've clicked the "I'm back" button seems less intrusive. I've chosen to be back, as apposed to having logged in automatically just because my computer turned on. So there ya have my justification. Feel free to disagree. -Sean p.s. - it is also of great assistance to those cyberstalkers out there :) On Tuesday 11 May 2004 03:41 am, Stefan Gehn wrote: > ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- > You are the assignee for the bug, or are watching the assignee. > > http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=65952 > > > > > ------- Additional Comments From mETz81 web de 2004-05-11 12:41 ------- > Well, not that it's hard to add or something. Well, it is almost seven years since someone last talked about this bug. I would like to know if anybody still thinks it is worth implementing, otherwise I will close it.
Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained. Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
