Description David Corbin 2003-10-03 16:02:29 UTC
Version: 1.5 (using KDE KDE 3.1.3)
Installed from: Unlisted Binary Package

Courier IMAP allows message to be flagged as Deleted, and as Seen, independently. If a message is deleted but unseen, KMail will count this message as "unread" in the folder count. But if you click on the folder, it disappears from the count and is not shown (since it's deleted). If you click on another folder, it will come back to the Unread count (eventually)

Explictly compacting the folder will correct this, because the deleted messages will be removed.

Messages marked as Deleted, but not as "Seen" should not be counted as "Contributed"

Right, that's not intuitive, albeit not strictly wrong.
Comment 2 David Corbin 2003-10-05 23:31:23 UTC
I understand the literal interpretation. It's not only intuitive, it's
misleading - because Kmail is not consistent in that number. When you select the
folder, the unread count goes to 0. If it showed the deleted but not seen
messages here as unread, at least it would be consistent (though my original
suggestion is still the prefered one).

A little background why I mark this a duplicate: the only chance to handle this is to mark messages as deleted on the client when they're on the server. Otherwise we would have to select every folder and then do a search for deleted and unseen messages. This would take too much time with many folders.

That does not make sense; you are not allowed to change my email-status when checking for unread email..

Lets re-itererate this:
I have (fact) a folder on my imap server that has an email that is both deleted and new. KMail had nothing to do on how that email got that way.

KMail should detect this state, and if it has to do so by doing a search, then so be it.

Suggesting KMail change the state of emails on the server is unacceptable. KMail should not change the state on me just looking at the email.

Stop marking as duplicate of an unrelated wishlist item. THIS IS A REAL BUG.
*sigh*
