Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1.2) IMO it will be nice if KAtomic could be part of kdeedu. Some proposals to make it more educatif: o Add search function to search atoms. o Add separated game and show mode. o Add more edu information for each atom. o Add a quiz like in Kalzium. o Make the atom previews in 3D and so revolving.
patches welcome, I won't do it.
* What do you mean "preview in 3d"? You would only see a number of neutrons and protons and some electrons in a "orbit". In case you don't use the Bohr-Atom you wouldn't see anything at all... * What do you mean with "search atoms"? You mean as a second game like "find all carbon-atoms within the molecule"? * The information could be provided by kalzium directly via dcop or something like that. As of KDE 3.2, Kalzium has no dcop. * Adding 3d-support mean adding a dependency to KPovModeller or a 3d-lib like mesa. Pretty much for kdeedu, I think

I'm not an atom-guy, but I thaught atoms in real life where a 3D structure? > * What do you mean with "search atoms"? Pretty much for kdeedu, I think It may be optional (btw: KStars also have plans for OpenGL support if I'm right).
> I'm not an atom-guy, but I thaught atoms in real life where a 3D structure? Not really, a atom is only a "ball". Perhaps you are thinking about the molecules you construct in KAtomic. Those have a "real" 3d-structure, yes. > e.g.: search C or search carbon, will give the game about C. Carbon is not a molecule but an atom, only a "ball" or a "sphere". There is nothing to construct >> * Adding 3d-support mean adding a dependency to KPovModeller or a 3d-lib >> like mesa. Pretty much for kdeedu, I think > It may be optional (btw: KStars also have plans for OpenGL support if I'm > right). Perhaps the kstars-guys will add it in KDE 3.3 / 4.0, yes. As of now, KStars isn't using it.

could we close that wish at the moment? It seems KAtomic is not closely maintained and nor Carsten neither Coolo of course neither anybody else has presently time to implement this wish.
Why should it be closed? This is bugzilla, so this wish may be open for even more than 100 years! :-D
Just for the record: I agree with Sander here. It's a legitim wish, so leave it open. I will at some point close all wishes that are open for two years without a certain limit of votes, but this bug is open for less than a year.
Just an update after two years ;-) In KDE4 I want Kalzium to have a 3d-viewer because I want to be able to show a lattice. Therefore, if Sander would explain this bug in a bit more detail, I might do it now.
Let me comment original posting: > IMO it will be nice if KAtomic could be part of kdeedu. Nope. kdeedu has KAlzium. > o Add search function to search atoms. Sorry, this is a game to CONSTRUCT atoms. If you want something more, you want Kalzium :) > o Add separated game and show mode. Same as above. > o Add more edu information for each atom. Agreed here. Planned for future. This is already described in bug 137052. > o Add a quiz like in Kalzium. You have Kalzium for that. Let katomic be a game. Not a second Kalzium. > o Make the atom previews in 3D and so revolving. This is again described in bug 137052 As Carsten said above if you have some suggestions, you can feel free to contact him. Bottom line: I'm closing this bug - reasons above :)
