Version: (using KDE Devel) Compiler: gcc 3.2 OS: Linux Since recently (two days at max) new windows are sometimes placed on the wrong screen. They used to be placed on the screen with mouse cursor. Now some of the windows are placed on the other screen. This happens eg. for kcalc and ksirtet. If I am on screen 2 and start ksirtet using the minicli, it's placed on screen 1. This however does not happen with konsole. Konsole is always placed on the screen that has cursor. I am using XFree 4.3 with Xinerama extention.
I can confirm this bug with recent KDE CVS (updated as of 12ish hours ago), though it behaves slightly different for me. With the mouse pointer in screen 1 (on the right for me), I opened 15 Konsoles, and all of them appeared on screen 2 (on the left). They continued opening on screen 2, even after every bit of empty space on that screen had been consumed by Konsoles. Screen 1 was completely empty. Most programs seem to want to open on screen 2 for some reason, regardless of where the mouse pointer is, or how much space is available on each screen. I have to move windows around after opening them; very inconvenient at times... Thanks in advance.

I can't reproduce this with HEAD from yesterday night. In the Control Center at Peripherals->Display->Multiple Monitors or Desktop->Multiple Montiors (one of them just went a way -- bug 72171 -- but I don't know which) there's an option to specify where "Unmanaged windows" should appear. Maybe changing that helps?
Could you please check with a more recent CVS version?
Waiting for a response.
The only app for which this happens to me is Kuickshow which seem to use a weird "feature" to override KWin's placing algorith since ages (it always did that). Everything else works fine, at least in respect to this bug :)
I have that annoying problem with kuickshow, too. Please reopen. The proposed solution from comment #3 does not work.
If it's kuickshow-specific, please file a new bugreport for it (not that, frankly, I think that'd help, Kuickshow hasn't been maintained for quite a while).
