Thanks for the report,

Some of these files don't work for me in either kghostview nor pure gs (running "gs
file.pdf" on a console).

The ones that do, seem to print well to PostScript.
Have you tried doing that?
What are the results?

regards,
luis

I just tried from the console as you did and it fails.

The GhostView I was using is a GUI x11 front end GV3.5.8 which displays and prints
them correctly also works with Xpdf v2.01

These are accessed by KDE | applications | publishing

I'm using Mandrake v9.1 kde v3.1.2

I talked to their IT guy and asked how they were produced. He said :-

"I generated these from photoshop, using Mac OS 10.2.6's (or earlier)
built in pdf writer. I suspect if there are problems with this, it is
due to the roundabout way we extracted the maps from our mapping
consultants mapping program. Incredibly, their top of the line software
does not generate pdf's, and we can only get non standard tiff files
from it, this I open and convert using photoshop, then generate the pdf."

Irrespective, I'm curious as to why they display (slowly, I should add) and print correctly
with the GUI GV3.5.8 & Xpdf v2.01.

Sorry, I don't program but if you have more questions, I'll try and answer

Hello,

I have a similar problem with another PDF: http://www.oakville.ca/Media_Files/RecCultureBrochures/0607FW-RegistrationForm.pdf

It seems like this PDF also comes from a graphical scan (the text is not copyable, only the image). In any event, File > Properties says that this file was generated with Adobe InDesign CS2 (4.0.2) in Format PDF v. 1.6.

I'm trying to move away from Windows ME. I installed Kubuntu Edgy 6.10 with KDE 3.5.5 from a Live CD, and I keep it updated with all the recommended updates. I also added Firefox 2.0.1. My printer driver is HP LaserJet 3 Foomatic/ljet3 (this version of LaserJet 3 driver is labeled as "recommended") via CUPS.

I opened http://www.oakville.ca/Media_Files/RecCultureBrochures/0607FW-RegistrationForm.pdf with KGhostview 0.2.0 directly from Firefox 2.0.1. It displayed OK, but trying to print from KGhostview resulted in a frozen program. In fact it slowed down the rest of my KDE desktop to a glacial crawl. Everything was so slow that I could not even invoke a control application to kill this process! I had to re-boot my computer :-(

Linux was supposed to be harder than this to crash!

I saved the file instead, and tried to open and print with KPDF 0.5.5. The eventual printout looks like a "negative" -- white on black instead of black on white! The printout is also a bit too narrow (does not follow page proportions). And the top horizontal bar on the page (the one that says "Registration" on the top right, in black on light blue) was not printed at all.

Acrobat Reader 6.0 under Windows ME complained about a "newer file format" but opened and printed the file correctly anyway.

Can anyone reproduce this issue with Okular? (none of the linked PDF files seems to be available)
