Description christophe 2003-07-09 22:21:40 UTC
Version: 1.5.2 (using KDE 3.1.2)
Installed from: (testing/unstable)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3 (Debian)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.20.ccs.34+debianlogo+ck

Hi,

I've made a message with a false address as To:, and some people in Bcc.
When sending the message, KMail claims 'Cannot route to <dfdsf_sdfd@univers.com>' (the false address), and puts the message in the Outbox.
When looking in the outbox, the message is still there, WITH Bcc and To. I open the message to correct it... and the BCC has disappeared!!!
I can't even know if the mail was sent to the correct addresses (I'm pretty sure it isn't).

 - The Bcc should not disappear.
 - When a message is refused by the SMPT server, the message should say that NO mail was sent (not just the faulty address).

 Thanks !

The smtp server should accept the valid bcc addresses and will send them (afaik), so stripping the successfully sent bcc addresses and leaving the one which couldn't be sent in seems the correct behavior to me. Ingo?

Bug still there with Kmail 1.6.2 / KDE 3.2.2 from Debian Sarge:
I tried to send a mail with a stupid address, with myself as BCC ; the mail was rejected, is still there in Outbox with the BCC, and that BCC is lost if I open this mail again. But I have never received a copy.
The mail server at the other side is Exim, I don't know if the different MTA can have different behaviours in this case (do they send the BCC if possible as Till suggests, or reject all addresses if one fails validation?).
Comment 3 Philip Rodrigues 2006-10-29 12:05:45 UTC
My (university's) SMTP server seems to do as Till suggests: the message is sent to the (correct) BCC address, and I get a separate failure notification from the SMTP server about the incorrect To address. So I suppose this problem is MTA-dependent.

Well OK, this bug is related and I missed that :)

But the BCC list is still not copied in the new message.

Thanks in advance

Marc

I just checked this with kmail 1.10.1 from kubuntu packages and this seems to be fixed. After opening a rejected mail from the outgoing folder, all bcc entries are still there.

Kmail 1.9.10, Kbuntu 8.04 :

My original bug has disappeared (it was about Bcc disappeared for messages from the Outbox).

But there is still a problem for messages from the "Sent" folder (bugs 163723 and 160684, tagged as duplicates of this one).

What should be the status of the present bug? Strictly speaking, this one is FIXED, but 160684 is still open.

I agree this bug should be marked as FIXED. Can someone please do so?
