Description himself 2003-07-06 23:19:54 UTC
Version: 1.5.1 (using KDE 3.1.1)
Installed from: SuSE
Compiler: gcc version 3.3 20030226 (prerelease) (SuSE Linux)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.20-4GB

kmail had been working, as far as I can tell, but today I began getting the error message: refused by server, sentmail without @ is administratively refused. I checked the initial configuration - nothing has changed. I reinstalled kmail - still the same error message. There's nothing in the logs that I can find about it. I recently updated to SuSE 8.2. Could this be their problem and not your's? There is no crash. I am able to receive but I cannot send.

This is definitely a kmail problem. After posting this report, I installed Sylpheed and tried to
send with it. It works. I'm more comfortably with kmail, however, and would like to keep it if it
can be fixed.

This is definitely a kmail problem. I tried Sylpheed, and it worked. I would prefer kmail, if it can
be fixed.

Here's how the problem was fixed. When I installed Sylpheed, I renamed Mail to Mail1, let
Sylpheed install it's own mail folder and then imported my various folders from Mail1. After a bit
I went back to kmail to check some more and discovered that it now worked, using the
Sylpheed mail folder. I still don't know what was wrong but it's fixed.

Subject: Re: can receive mail but not send

My guess is that you had an empty message in the Outbox (this happens
sometimes if KMail isn't shutdown cleanly). KMail tried to send this
empty message and this was of course refused by the server. Simply
deleting this empty message would have most likely fixed the problem.

Please close this bug report as WORKSFORME since the problem seems to be
resolved.
