Description Roland Stuehmer 2003-05-24 14:45:25 UTC
Version: 1.5.2 (using KDE 3.1.2)
Installed from: SuSE
Compiler: gcc version 3.3 20030226 (prerelease) (SuSE Linux)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.20-4GB-athlon

Hi!

When I reply to a mailing-list which is configured in the folder preferences, KMail derives my sender identity from the To:-header (if there is a match with my list of identities) although I defined a default identity for that folder.

Expected Behaviour: KMail should prefer the folder identity, especially for folders that have a configured mailing-list because it is sometimes vital to have the right From:-header in order for the email to be delivered to the list.

Of course other times I very much like the feature that KMail determines the identity by looking at the To:-header people used to contact me in the first place, but a folder identity should override this.

Regards,

Roland.

I believe this bug to be very similar to 53284 but more importantly I think that it is a
consequence of Waldo Bastian's fix for bug 36182 in 2001-12-15.

The original problem was that when emails with multiple To: addresses were held in the one
inbox, then any reply would be given the default identity and signature as it is assigned to the
main inbox. In this way replying to a business email may reveal your personal email identity, or
vice versa. This was resolved by making the identity used for the reply follow the original To:
address.

But this introduces another problem.

I use a "personal" email address of <peterl@my.domain> and a business address of
<lewisp@my.domain>. I filter emails on receipt int several folders. Those emails from my
children I filter into the "children" folder, those from friends into the "personal" folder.

I have two identities for these. The personal identity has a signature that says:

Best regards
Peter Lewis
peterl@my.domain

and the children identity signature says:

Love from Dad.
peterl@my.domain

It was when a friend pointed out that I was not his dad that I discovered that kmail was
selecting the "children" identity for replies to emails in the "personal" folder which has the
"presonal" identity assigned to it.

Please could this be resolved by using the identity assigned to a folder where the reply is to an
email that has been filtered (moved) into a folder, yet follow the To: address in the inbox.

I have a similar (same) problem as Peter Lewis. I filter mail from 'work' into a folder called
'work'. I have set a 'work' identity for that folder.

If I create a new email while in the work folder, I will get the proper 'work' identity but if I reply
to email that was received in 'work', I get the default identity. It is a pain to always have to
change the identity before replying. (and I don't always remember to change it.)
Comment 3 Ingo Klöcker 2004-02-01 14:32:54 UTC
As a workaround you can set the correct identity with a filter. Since you already use a filter to separate the messages you just have to add a "set identity to" filter action to this filter. Please add this filter action before the "move to folder"/"file into folder" filter action if you are using an older version of KMail.

I'm now looking into this problem but I fear it can't be fixed for KDE 3.2.x because the fix will involve larger changes.

This should be simple to fix and sucks badly. I mean KDE 3.2.3 and still not fixed? KMail devs, please hear the voices. :)

Uh - didn't read the last comment. Sorry.

Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented.
Thank you for your understanding.
Comment 8 Luigi Toscano 2012-08-19 01:02:50 UTC
Instead of creating a new feature request, please confirm here if the wishlist is still valid for kmail2.
