Description Andy Neitzke 2003-04-22 07:34:50 UTC
Version: unknown (using KDE 3.1.1)
Compiler: gcc version 3.2.2 (Mandrake Linux 9.2 3.2.2-5mdk)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.21-0.13mdk

(I'm not completely sure whether this bug should be filed against konqueror or against kghostview.)

When downloading postscript files from arxiv.org I sometimes encounter the following situation: I click the link, Konqueror opens the embedded viewer, the "in progress" gear turns, but no progress meter appears and the file is never downloaded. If I then click "reload," or click "back" and try the link again, the download proceeds normally and the file is displayed properly. After making it work once in this way, it continues to work (for the same postscript file or for other ones) until I close konqueror.

This problem is not specific to the embedded viewer -- I get the same problem if I use the standalone kghostview. In the latter case I get a blank "Loading Progress" dialog.

I can produce this problem (not every single time, but more than 50% of the time) by opening a new konqueror window, visiting

http://www.people.fas.harvard.edu/~neitzke/

and clicking on "transmission.ps". The problem can still occur even if the requested file is in my local cache -- in this case, clicking "reload" brings up the cached copy instantly.

Confirming....

It happens on the above mentioned file on CVS even after downloading to local
disk.

It fails half the time...

Bug 69456 was more recently reported, looks like it's the same as this one, but has more comments and information; maybe this bug should be marked a duplicate of 69456.

Is this fixed by the patch at the end of but #69456 ?

Works fine in Okular (probably did in KGhostView too after #69456 was resolved).
