Description oliv 2003-04-01 15:16:44 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1)
Installed from: Mandrake RPMs
Compiler: gcc3.2.2
OS: Linux

I know this may sound like an old issue, but it is not. Even with GTK2 apps that DO support the XDND protocol, DnD from Konqueror does not work.

This bug originates in the DnD to the gimp development version, which is based on GTK2 and the freedesktop XDND protocol. I reported this as gimp bug: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109495
I since have found a bunch of GTK2 apps for which the DnD from Konqueror does not work, thus the gimp dev. suggested that I also fill a bug here.
Esp. Sven Neuman mentionned that "On the toolbox we accept drops that contain either "text/uri-list" or "_NETSCAPE_URL". If Konqueror is sending a different DND type, we could consider to add it but I wonder why they are not using the standard "text/uri-list"."
Gimp 1.3
Screem
Eye of the Gnome (eog)
Rox-Filer 1.3
Sodipodi (0.31.1, gtk2 version)

and possibly pan and gnumeric, although I suspect them to be gtk1

I only found the DnD from Konqueror to work for Nautilus, Gedit and Bluefish 0.9.

When I DnD to Rox-Filer, an error message pops up (I have French locale, so I translate it to English):
"uri-list-to-glist: incorrect or missing end of line in the text/uri-list data
----
Error while loading the filelist : No URI in text/uri-list (nothing to do)"

DnD from Rox-Filer works towards all the applications, Konqueror included.

Please could you at least provide information about the DND type sent when I drag an image onto gimp toolbox from Konqueror and participate to the gimp bug discussion, if you consider Konqueror is not in cause.

Thanks in advance.

My conf: Mdk 9.1, kernel 2.4.20, XFree 4.3, gcc3.2.2, glib/gtk 2.2.1, gimp 1.3.13, KDE 3.1 (mandrake has it patched so that it should not differ much from 3.1.1 actually).

sorry, a paragraph as splitted another one in to, making message hard to read.
The comment from Sven Neumann ("Esp. Sven Neuman mentionned ...
"text/uri-list".") should be placed after Rox-filer considerations ("DnD from
Rox-Filer works towards all the applications, Konqueror included.")

This is a duplicate of this bug:
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36297
Sorry, I had search in the bug database but found nothing. I found this through
the mailing list serach tool.
How can I close this bug as duplicate? I only have "resolved" in the choices
below, but this bug is not resolved, just "duplicate"
Comment 3 Rex Dieter 2003-04-03 16:02:48 UTC
reopen to change to duplicate.
Comment 4 Rex Dieter 2003-04-03 16:03:34 UTC
FYI, the dup option is the next one under "Resolve bug, changing...".

This bugreport was marked as a duplicate of 36297 by mistake, it wasn't a duplicate. I believe I
just fixed the KDE problem that caused this specific problems. That doesn't mean it will actually
work though. Gtk2 needs a fix too.

I confirm the DnD now works between Konqueror and Gimp dev on Mandrake 9.2, so I think you indeed fixed the problem and GTK2 did too. Thanks
