Description wjhns25 2003-03-04 15:48:55 UTC
Version: 3.1 (using KDE 3.1.0)
Installed from: Red Hat Linux 7.3
Compiler: gcc version 2.96 20000731 (ASPLinux 7.3 2.96-113)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.18-19.7.x

I'm always in search of a better todo-list manager. I've been using korganizers for a while, but I can't quite get the productiveness out of it that I need. I finally decided what it is that I need. I need to be reminded until I take care of something.

It's likely that at any given time I have N outstanding todo list items, hopefully with a date associated with them (though I don't apply dates now most of the time as it doesn't buy me much). Additionally, it's also likely I have M todo list items which are actually past their deadline.

What I suggest is a new popup-alarm specifically for your todo list which displays your list of todos. It should flattened (maybe showing hierarchy, but it needs to be sorted by date and multiple sub-items in a hierarchial todo list need to be separated by subtodos in other hierarchies, if that makes sense). It should be one line per todo list item being display. It should display all M todo list items that haven't been done (preferrably in red). It might display max(N, PREF-M) upcoming todos as well, where PREF is a configurable number. It should contain a checkbox to let you mark them off right there, or double clicking to edit the given todo (maybe changing the date, for example).

One final suggestion, if there are todo list times which are past their date, I'd love for it to remind me every X minutes (def=60) until I take care of them.

Thoughts? I don't think this would actually be too hard to implement. I've thought about looking into playing with the code myself, but I doubt I can get the time at least for a long time.

[another aside: I'd love todo list items to show on the day-views of the calander [7 day, 5 day, ... not just the month]. One way of doing this, that I've seen something else do, is to have a preference showing what time todo list entries should show up on the calendar and thus it would fill in a square with a list of all the days todo list items]

Gee I hope I'm helpful and not a pain.

Reassigning all KOrganizer bug reports and wishes to the newly created
korganizer-devel mailing list.

I think these wishes have been largely met.

- The To-do list view can be sorted by due date, colors overdue to-dos red,
  and has check boxes.
- The reminder daemon displays notifications that persist, silently nagging,
until you actively do something to dismiss them.
- The Agenda view can display to-dos (on their due dates).

Is the current behavior satisfactory?
