Description Stefan Briesenick 2003-02-27 22:04:17 UTC
Version: 1.5 (using KDE KDE 3.1)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

please add an option to setup/configure server side mail flters (SIEVE). Local filters are not really an option if you're using an IMAP server.

regards
Stefan

Implemented in cvs HEAD aka kde 3.2
Comment 2 Ferdinand Gassauer 2003-09-25 05:09:53 UTC
Hmm!
What does happen when "server supports sieve" is checked ?
- local rules are uploaded or
- server side rules are downloaded and applied local pop mail or
- server side rules are edited
- or ??

IMHO it needs better wording to make it cear

Hi,

I agree with the last comment. I've been trying to use Sieve filters in KMail but I haven't been able to figure how to use it :?

Regards!

There is only a basic implementation for vacation notifications via SIEVE. This has been implemented for Kolab. However this is far away from the intention behind this wish which is about being able to manage filters using the capabilities currently available in KMail and then upload these defined filters via SIEVE (plus modify SIEVE filters by downloading them from the server, editing in KMail and uploading them again)..
Comment 5 Matt Douhan 2005-07-20 15:41:55 UTC
current KMail has a simple Sieve editor in place that allows downloading, editing and uploading sieve scripts.

Comment 6 Earl Ruby 2005-08-08 22:24:30 UTC
I'm running the current stable version of KMail (1.8) and I don't see any options for doing this, and searching the KMail handbook for the word "sieve" turns up nothing.

Could you give us a hint where the "simple Sieve editor ... that allows downloading, editing and uploading sieve scripts" can be found and/or used?
Comment 7 Martijn Klingens 2005-08-08 22:32:47 UTC
It's new in the development version; it will be new in KDE 3.5 this fall. Alternatively you could of course use a development version or one of the upcoming alpha's or beta's of course if you don't mind the occasional rough edge.

This can be closed right ? Sieve Filter editing is supported.

You can display, add, set active and edit the scripts.
Comment 9 Stefan Briesenick 2006-05-11 00:54:11 UTC
yes, well, you can "display, add and edit" scripts now. And this is ok and great. But it is not really perfect this way. I would call this "Expert-Mode for Sieve-Scripts".

Where is the "John-Doe-Mode"? Just like the local filters. An easy to use dialog-based interface.

I want to right-click on a Mail and then "create filter...". Something my wife is able to handle.

Is this info:
http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-linux&m=110085265300357&w=2
still valid?
This is the ONLY reason I have for using Thunderbird instead of KMail, and I'd like to move to the latter as it's better integrated with Kontact.
All I'm asking is to be able to automatically filter messages on a IMAP
inbox, moving them to other IMAP directories.
Is this happening with KDE 3.5? It would be a good reason to upgrade..
Comment 11 Magnus Holmgren 2006-08-19 17:16:27 UTC
It can't, or shouldn't, be, since the Advanced tab of the Filter dialog
includes the explicit option of applying a given filter to all accounts
*except* connected IMAP accounts. That would be pointless if filters never
were applied to connected IMAP accounts anyway.

However, what I'm experiencing is that it doesn't always work, but I haven't
been able to figure out the circumstances.

I implemented highlighter syntaxe, completion syntaxe, check syntax and import/export script.
For me now it's full feature.
