Description matze 2003-02-03 16:09:20 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

I stumbled across this while conducting a linux training for some customer. Their company gateway uses a squid proxy for gatewaying and authenticating http transfers. Trying to download some material from internet, I noticed that konqueror seemed to be unable to authenticate against the proxy. The dialog box appears O.K. but keeps reappearing all the time, no request ever going through.

Trying netscape worked, however.

We used the KDE3.1 RPMs for SuSE 8.0 from download.kde.org.
With KDE 3.0.3(?) as shipped with SuSE 8.0, konqueror was able to _sometimes_ cross the proxy, seemingly depending on what user agent it was pretending to be (but I don't give much on this information).

I cannot contribute a test case, but I'll be seeing the customer again next wednesday, trying to gather some more information.

Hello Matz,

More information is always good :) Some of the information needed would be what
authentication scheme is Squid setup to use. How did you specify the proxy configuration in
konqueror ? Is it manual setup or one of the automatic ones ? Are you using the final 3.1
SUSE RPMS since there was a fix that affected automatic proxy setup present only in the final
3.1 release and up. Of course the debug output from kio_http would make the above moot,
but you cannot generate that if you installed a distro provided package :(

Let us merge this into 58530 on the assumption digest authentication was being
used.
