Description Kevin Jackson 2002-12-19 16:16:35 UTC
Version: 1.4.3 (using KDE 3.0.5)
Compiler: gcc version 3.2 20021021 (Red Hat Linux 8.0 3.2-11)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.20

I collect my mail from a local POP3 server, email gets deleted from server.
I use mail filters to filter incoming mail into various folders.
I delete messages - only for them to reappear.
When I quit KMail and start up again, all my mail I've sent will get resent again as the Mail/outbox file isn't empty - so I have to make sure this is empty before starting.
Messages that have been read, when mail comes in and filtered to that folder the previous messages that were marked as read become unread -- so if I had 1 new email displayed in a folder, suddenly there'd be 5 or so -- note it isn't ALL email that gets marked as unread.
Note - when I click on the Outbox in KMail - nothing is there - but the file in my Mail/ directory isn't empty - but has my emails I've sent.

What have I done?
Good question. I upgraded to KDE 3.04 and this was when things went strange... so I upgraded to KDE3.05. And still no joy.
So, why haven't I gone back to KDE3.03 that ships with RH8.0? I will do before finding an alternative mail client...

I've noticed _similar_ bugs - where the solution is "Sorry - you can't reproduce so can't fix". Which is true - but doesn't that mean there IS a problem?

Can I reproduce it?
Yes - its annoying the hell out of me because every email that comes in, I delete and it appears again. I exit and open KMail and mail sits in my outbox - this time I can see the mail in my Outbox in KMail.

Can I tell you steps to recreate?
No - because its an isolated incident.

All I'm asking is - what information can I give you? How can I give you the information. Is there a debug/verbose mode so I can see in a terminal what is going wrong?
And any tips as to what I can do!

Oh - I've tried deleting the indexes -- this temporarily solved the problem of
messages being marked as unread... but any new mail still suffers from the
same problem.

I use KBiff which invokes kmail --check before reading mail.

I've just checked the options --

Network::Send mail in Outbox on check WASN'T checked, so checked it then
checked it OFF again (just in case).
Mail is stored in Maildir format.

I've just "Compacted" the problem folders (to delete mail that re-appears) and
they have gone.

Mail - still is in Mail/outbox file but doesn't get sent, nor is visible in
KMail any more.

can you reproduce that problem with kmail 1.5? Do you use NFS?
