Version: (using KDE KDE 3.0.99) Installed from: I Don't Know Date: Tue, 17 Dec 2002 17:37:02 +0000 From: Doug Neal <doug@neal.me.uk> To: porten@kde.org Subject: KPPP suggestions Hi! I would like to make some suggestions for features in KPPP, as I have just tried to set it up and found it slightly limiting for my purposes. 1. Different modem settings for different connections. For example, to be able to choose a different connection to switch between serial port and the IR port rather than edit the settings each time. 2. More device nodes listed, /dev/ircomm0 doesn't appear to be available 3. Disabling modem dial speed selection (ATS11=), sometimes it doesn't work e.g. my mobile phone returns an error with this command... I may try and implement these things myself but I have never programmed in C++ before so I don't know how far I would get :) Thanks for the great software. :) Cheers, Doug
I agree, the device tab should go into connection setup dialogue. As to the modem tab, I think in most cases having additional init string under connection setup is fine. As an immediate solution it would be nice if KPPP could regognize the Modem= line in the [Account] section, that is, in kppprc one could say [Account0] .... Modem="Modem0" .... [Account1] .... Modem="Modem1" ..... [Modem] .... [Modem0] ...... [Modem1] with [Modem] section reserved for default modem when no Modem line is present in the [Account] section. As to the GUI, I trust Harri Porten to know better. KDE project does an excellent job on GUI standards. I'd like to thank the KDE team here once again!
This project is unfortunately no longer maintained. If a new maintainer wants to step up and take care, the project is archived here: https://invent.kde.org/unmaintained/kppp You can just clone it in your private namespace on invent.kde.org and if you have started to work on it and fixed/implemented something get it reviewed and the project unarchived. Sorry for the inconveniences.
