Description Hamish Claxton 2026-02-08 05:01:10 UTC
I recently updated my system and noticed that my discrete GPU is no longer detected when rebinding it to the amdgpu display driver. Plasma correctly notifies that the display has been disconnected when dynamically binding it to the VFIO driver however no display is reconnected when returning it to the amdgpu driver.

My primary GPU is an RX 6600 XT and my passthrough GPU is a RX 6950 XT.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Bind the GPU to VFIO and notice that the display is successfully disconnected. Make sure the display is turned off in display settings otherwise you will get a kernel panic.
2. Rebind the GPU to amdgpu and notice that no display is reconnected.

OBSERVED RESULT
No display is reconnected upon rebinding the GPU to amdgpu.

EXPECTED RESULT
The display is reconnected upon rebinding the GPU to amdgpu.

I realised I did not state that this was within the Wayland environment. GPU Hotplugging does not work at all in X11 of course.
This was definitely working last year with Plasma 6.4 if I recall correctly.
