Description jcdepner 2026-02-06 14:06:55 UTC
Whenever I open an instance of Dolphin, my network connection disconnects and reconnects. I have both hard-wired Ethernet and WiFi on this system and it happens regardless of which I'm using. This does not happen with Nautilus, Thunar, et. al. This is repeatable on my system.

dmesg output for WiFi:

Do you have any network folders (smb, ftp, etc.) configured in dolphin?
Comment 2 jcdepner 2026-02-09 17:51:57 UTC
Hi Tobias,

I have some folders that are being exported/shared via NFS and SMB from
this system but they're not configured in Dolphin.  By "configured" I'm
assuming you mean NFS and/or SMB folders that are mounted and show up in
Dolphin.

I've been using Thunar for the last few days (I don't like it near as
much as Dolphin) and I've done a couple of updates/upgrades and now,
trying Dolphin again, I can't get it to repeat.  I've switched the
default file manager back to Dolphin and I can't get it to disconnect.
I spent 45 years as a professional programmer (FORTRAN/DISSPLA,
C/Motif/Qt, C++/OpenGL/Qt) so I know that there is nothing more annoying
than a non-repeatable bug.  Or, as Microsoft used to say, "if it's not
repeatable, it's not a bug".  So, until I can get it to start doing it
again (and I hope it doesn't) you might as well let it slide.

Thank you so much for getting back to me so promptly and thanks for a
really great file manager.

Cheers,
Jan

Hi Tobias,

It started up again.  I have no idea what's going on.  Is there any
kind of debugging I can do to get a clue?

Cheers,
Jan

Comment 4 jcdepner 2026-02-09 18:24:14 UTC
Hi Tobias,

One more thing, I'm running another Linux box (Kubuntu 24.04 like
this one) and it doesn't have this problem.  It does mount the NFS
shares from this system though and they show up in the sidebar of
Dolphin.  On this system the SMB shared folders show up under
"Remote->Network->Shared Folders (SMB).  I stopped the SMB servers and
that didn't make any difference.  If there is anything I can do to try
to clear this up please let me know.  I doubt that this is a major
problem since it seems I'm the only one experiencing it ;-)

Cheers,
Jan
