Hello everyone, I’m new to Linux and have been using **Fedora 43 KDE** for about a month. I made a video to illustrate a problem I’m experiencing in the Start Menu: In the video, at the beginning, I switch back and forth between two categories in the Start Menu: **Jeux** (Games) and **Multimedias**. This allows you to clearly see the applications in each category, and there’s no issue at this point. However, in the **Games** menu, where there are many icons, whenever I scroll using the mouse wheel and then click on another menu, such as **Multimedia**, some games or game entries from the **Games** menu often appear in the wrong menu—in this case, in **Multimedia**. The scrolling action with the mouse wheel seems to trigger this issue. Steps to reproduce: - From the Start menu, go to a category with many entries and a scroll bar (Games in my example) - Scroll through the category's contents. - Click on Another menu" (Multimedias in my example) : Some entries from the previous menu will replace other entries in the new category. Can't reproduce this on git master, looks like some odd caching issue. I also can't reproduce this with current git master.
I also can't reproduce this on master, or on Fedora 43. I noticed that the first time only one icon switches, then the whole row. I had the hypothesis that it might have to do with subcatgories (as games are subdivided into game types), but they don't match - the group in the second one shouldn't be in the same category (unless the menu was edited that way?) Ravaged, did you change any kickoff settings? The view mode was clearly changed to grid view for non-favorites, anything else?

I just deleted all the empty folders from the default subcategories, but it didn't change anything. The problem persists, and it's indeed randomly the first icon or the first row of icons that are duplicated in the wrong category. I've always experienced this with the Games category, and my game icons are very customized but limited to 256x256px. However, I just tried it with the Utilities category, where there are many programs, and some icons are also duplicated in other categories (for example, the first two). I don't think I've made any other changes to the Start menu besides displaying entries in a grid, modifying several icons and adding entries to Games.

The problem only appears when, in the Application Launcher configuration, "Show other applications" is set to "In a grid". Very cool! However I cannot reproduce it as shown on current git master. Are you still able to reproduce it like that in Plasma 6.7.4 or later, Marcelo or ravaged?
I can reproduce it with kde plasma 6.7.4. I'll try building the git master to see if I can reproduce it there as well.
I couldn't reproduce the error with kde linux 2026-08-18.
Looks like the error only appears when there's at least 2 pages of scroll for the menu category. I've also tested a clean user with kde plasma 6.7.4 and I can reproduce under those circumstances.

Same test today, same result Start menu in grid mode, after a simple scroll in the Games category which contains many entries, then a simple click in another category, the entries of the Games category are duplicated in the other category. Thanks for investigating - when trying to reproduce this I gave up way too early to see the bug happen; you need a ton of entries. This allowed me to reproduce and find the cause.

Instead, disable reuse of items in GridView as well - it's only rarely relevant anyway as you need so many entries in a category, and the only time it's relevant it breaks category switching.
