Description Riven Skaye 2026-01-20 08:49:37 UTC
SUMMARY
On android 15 and 16, with the navigation mode set to 3-button bar instead of gestures (the bar on the bottom of the screen, with back/home/recent apps), the control bar for KDE Connect's remote input function is placed behind the navigation bar instead of above or in front of it, making it impossible to use the quick buttons provided by the KDE Connect app (keyboard down, KDE Connect settings, IME switcher, connection status). This doesn't break anything but workflow, as everything other than the IME switcher is accessible by simply switching to the KDE connect app, and Android itself shows an IME switcher on the 3-button navigation pane.

On previous phones this worked, until my last phone got updated to Android 15. My new phone shipped with 15 and had the same issue, and it has not yet been resolved as of Android 16. Wanted to make sure it was not an issue with the last phone or OEM skin.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. On the android device go to Settings > Display > System Navigation
2. Select "Navigation bar"
3. Connect KDE Connect to a PC
4. Select KDE Connect as current active keyboard
5. Select any text input field, for example the search bar on the settings page

OBSERVED RESULT
The gray bar at the bottom of the screen indicating KDE Connect as the current IME, with the quick action buttons, is positioned behind the navigation bar rather than above it as it did until Android 14.

EXPECTED RESULT
Accessible quick actions bar.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Irrelevant, this is isolated to Android and even happens when not connected to a PC.
