STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Charge to 100% 2. Turn on "Show battery percentage on icon when not fully charged" option 3. Unplug power cord OBSERVED RESULT Battery starts discharging so the applet appears in the active area of the system tray, but the percentage badge is suppressed. It appears at a later time when the percentage is below 100%. EXPECTED RESULT Percentage badge appears immediately because the battery started discharging when the power cord was removed, hence by definition it's not fully charged anymore. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION? Why is this actually a problem rather than just a quirk worth getting used to? 1. The UI text of the option is contradicted by reality 2. It feels weird for the the applet to appear in the visible area of the system tray with no badge, and then the badger appears later SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: KDE Linux 2026-01-16 KDE Plasma Version: 6.6.80 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.23.0 Qt Version: 6.10.1 Kernel Version: 6.18.5-zen1-1-zen (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 7840U w/ Radeon™ 780M Graphics Memory: 17 GB of RAM (16.0 GB usable) Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon 780M Graphics

It would be technically wrong, but what if we just forced the percentage to display as 99% when the battery is discharging, but at 100%? Going back to the discussion from https://invent.kde.org/plasma/powerdevil/-/merge_requests/599 , we decided that differentiating between 100% & fully charged and 100% & discharging in the UI was not particularly useful. Logically, can you truly be at 100% charge while actively discharging without it being a quirk of how the device reports battery percentage?
