SUMMARY None of my keyboard media keys are working as audio volume shortcuts in wayland sessions. However, all is working as expected in X11 sessions. Keyboard: Logitech, Inc. I can't reproduce this with my Keychron K2 Pro keyboard, all the media keys are recognized for me. Do you have any other keyboards that you could test, to help figure out if it's specific hardware thing or something else? Operating System: KDE Linux 2026-01-18 KDE Plasma Version: 6.6.80 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.23.0 Qt Version: 6.10.1 Kernel Version: 6.18.5-zen1-1-zen (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland Processors: 12 × AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor Memory: 16 GiB of RAM (15,5 GiB usable) Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon RX 6600
Can you share your ~/.config/kglobalshortcutsrc? Also please check that the corresponding shortcuts are set as expected in shortcuts system settings, the relevant component is "media controller".
I found an old Logitech keyboard (PS/2 internet keyboard with similar media keys): the keys are working with it. Your Keychron K2 Pro keyboard seems to be a wireless model. So the problem could be related to USB bus or my specific keyboard? The shortcuts are all correct in my config panel, I didn't change the default ones. The extract from my ~/.config/kglobalshortcutsrc match perfectly (the "kmix" section is more relevant I think): [kmix] _k_friendly_name=Volume audio decrease_microphone_volume=Microphone Volume Down,Microphone Volume Down,Diminuer le volume du microphone decrease_volume=Volume Down,Volume Down,Diminuer le volume decrease_volume_small=Shift+Volume Down,Shift+Volume Down,Diminuer le volume de 1 % increase_microphone_volume=Microphone Volume Up,Microphone Volume Up,Augmenter le volume du microphone increase_volume=Volume Up,Volume Up,Augmenter le volume increase_volume_small=Shift+Volume Up,Shift+Volume Up,Augmenter le volume de 1 % mic_mute=Microphone Mute\tMeta+Volume Mute,Microphone Mute\tMeta+Volume Mute,Couper le son du microphone mute=Volume Mute,Volume Mute,Muet
The most likely part matching these symptoms in #1 is that the keymap doesn't map the media keys to the relevant XKB keys. Do you have any custom keyboard layout settings. Can you post a screenshot of the keyboard tab in the kwin debug console?
Created attachment 188764 [details] kwin debug console - keyboard tab
Screenshot added as attachment. I have no custom keyboard layout setting.
