Description shifu1412 2026-01-14 03:46:58 UTC
SUMMARY
Additional desktop effects downloaded from the "Get New..." button menu do not appear when downloaded.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. In System Settings > Window Management > Desktop Effects, click the "Get New..." button.
2. From the Download New Desktop Effects window that appears, download a new effect, such as TV-Effect [Burn-My-Windows] by schneegans for example.
3. Return to the Desktop Effects menu, and see that the downloaded effect is not there.

OBSERVED RESULT
The downloaded effect is not visible in the Desktop Effects menu. The downloaded effect has been installed to the computer's KWin folder, in the "effects" folder. Instead, the downloaded effect is only usable via System Settings > Animations menu where it's located in the drop down menu instead.

EXPECTED RESULT
I would like it if the downloaded effects were visible in the Desktop Effects menu as well. It was very confusing as a first-time user to not have the new downloaded effects show up in the same location as the other Desktop Effects.

If you quit System Settings and re-open it to that page, have they appeared?

Also, did they instead appear on the Animations page?

No, the new downloaded desktop effects do not appear in the Desktop Effects page unfortunately, even after quitting the System Settings page and reopening it. I have even rebooted my system, and it still doesn't appear.

However, the new downloaded desktop effects do appear in the Animations page from System Settings.

I had a feeling. That means this is the same issue as Bug 505243.
