Navigate to window management -> desktop effects page OBSERVED RESULT The "Show FPS" effect is listed and can be toggled on and off. EXPECTED RESULT There's no entry for the "Show FPS" effect. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: CachyOS Linux KDE Plasma Version: 6.5.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.22.0 Qt Version: 6.10.1 Kernel Version: 6.18.5-2-cachyos (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland ADDITIONAL INFORMATION The effect can still be manually turned on or off, either by editing kwinrc and restarting or by using KWin's D-Bus interface.
This was deliberately hidden as being a developer tool. It can also be activated through the UI from the kwin debug console.

I've found it to be a very useful tool for checking if VRR is working or not, so perhaps a separate VRR indicator effect could be added? I know some screens have it as a built-in option, but that's not a thing on laptops. In conjuction with VRR it's also nice to check if Nvidia Smooth Motion is working (MangoHud does not reflect its effects), but that's probably a sufficiently niche use case for KWin to not worry about it.
