Description Jefferson S. 2026-01-09 08:20:41 UTC
SUMMARY

When I launch & close following software:
- Dolphin
- System Settings
your software writes a file to /home/(username)/.config/kde.org/ every time I close the software:

[UserFeedback]
ApplicationStartCount=35
ApplicationTime=2695197

Can you stop this? Why do you need to write this every single time? I alraedy disabled telemetry(feedback) and I expect your software NOT to write anything except my settings.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Launch "Dolphin" and "System Settings"
2. Close both
3. Compare /home/(username)/.config/kde.org/UserFeedback.org.kde.*.conf files
4. Repeat 1-3 to observe changes

OBSERVED RESULT
The [UserFeedback] counter was increased, and the changes actually written to the disk unnecessarily, resulting in reduce HDD/SSD lifespan.

EXPECTED RESULT
Don't write anything by default, especially the user opt-out the telemetry.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Comment 1 Jefferson S. 2026-01-09 08:21:25 UTC
I now blocked those files by marking those files as "Can Only View" for a workaround.

Thanks for the bug report. I'm not able to reproduce this on Plasma built from git-master or 6.5.4.

On 6.5.4 I had User Feedback set to maximum. The system had no file for Dolphin, but it did have
$HOME/.config/kde.org/UserFeedback.org.kde.systemsettings.conf

When I set User Feedback to none, that file was deleted and not recreated, even after re-starting System Settings. The default setting is determined by your distro, but it should be off by default. KDE intends this to be opt-in.

It's possible there had been a bug that's been fixed. We need to know the versions of KDE software you're running to know for sure, and for this to be actionable. Please add information about your system as requested in the bug report template. Copy and paste this with the information into a new comment.
