Description ironman466 2026-01-03 14:41:34 UTC
SUMMARY
Sometimes Kickoff becomes broken and it never shows up afterward. The light blue square does appear on its icon but I don't actually see it.
I cannot reproduce it reliably but it happens at least twice a day. Killing plasmashell process and restarting its widgets fixes it temporarily.
I think other task menu widgets like "Hidden Items" is also affected but I wasn't able to confirm it yet.

OBSERVED RESULT
Kickoff does not show up

EXPECTED RESULT
It should behave normally.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: KDE Neon
KDE Plasma Version: 6.5.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.21.0
Qt Version: 6.10.1

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I use wayland

It happend again today. Last thing I did was:
1. Tried to open blender in kickoff
2. It didn't open and system showed me error in kdialog saying that it couldn't find application from path in .desktop file
3. I realized it's in ntfs drive which was not mounted
4. I opened yakuake with shortcut key (I set it to ctrl + shift +`) and ran this command: (`sudo ntfsfix -d /dev/sdc1`)
5. Tried to open kickoff to launch steam since blender is in there
6. Kickoff did not show up

When this happens, do you see any possibly relevant error messages in `journalctl --reverse`?

Does this only affect kickoff, or also other panel popups (like the system tray widgets)?

What graphics card are you using?

It just happened, right after booting.
Things I did in order:
1. Logged in
2. Started Zen browser
3. Opened kickoff
4. Accidentally closed it
5. Tried to open it again - didn't work

Here is snippet of journalctl. I copied from 30 seconds before I started zen browser to plasmashell restarting itself.

As you can see I started zen browser at "21:37:28" which is about 30 seconds after kdeconnected doing something. I believe that is when I was logging into my system and waiting for other uis to fully load in.
I should've tested other widgets but I forgot about it and immediately restarted plasmashell. I will test it next time.
I have GTX 1060 with nvidia official driver
