Description Andy 2026-01-01 17:19:58 UTC
Hi!

Face recognition doesn't seem to work when albums are permanently monitored and my scanned photos are added.

Settings -> Collections -> Monitor albums to detect changes outside of digiKam. -> enabled

Settings -> Miscellaneous -> Behavior -> Detect faces in newly added images. -> enabled

At least, that's the behavior I'm experiencing.

Andy

This function is only executed once at startup, not while digiKam is running and new images are being added. This is intentional; for performance reasons, it cannot be done any other way.

Okay!

Then I'll start the face recognition manually.

Hi!

I've deactivated permanent album monitoring.

Since I've only just noticed that faces aren't being recognized, I now have to rework the photos from the last 10 months.

I'll copy all the new photos to the correct location, just like I did before. And once that's done, I'll start digiKam with face recognition enabled on startup.

Would it make sense to add "only on program startup" to the option in parentheses in Settings > Miscellaneous -> Behavior?

Regards
Andy

Ugh. Even photos in 2024, because I recently cleaned up my wife's and my smartphones and moved the photos to the PC.
