SUMMARY
Assigning a keyboard shortcut to enable ime, such as ibus, breaks the standard keyboard input once the shortcut is used to turn it off

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add a keyboard layout in KDE settings > keyboard, e.g. gb extended
2. Under virtual keyboard, make sure ibus wayland is installed and enabled
?. Configure ibus to use an IME for japanese, E.G. mozc
3. in the plasma system tray settings, locate "input method", and assign a keyboard shortcut, e.g. Meta+Space
4. open kate or some other editor to test
5. Type with regular input (gb extended)
6. press meta+space
7. see that the ibus icon is now visible in the tray, and typing uses the ime
8. press meta+space again to go back to normal keyboard
9. try to type something

OBSERVED RESULT
Nothing is typed

EXPECTED RESULT
The same shortcut can be used to toggle the IME on and off
