Screenshot showing the popup that cannot be closed on touch devices

SUMMARY

See screenshot, sometimes on touch plasma seems to imagine a non-existant mouse cursor and just open up the giant window previews with no way to close them. Tapping other areas of the screen will not close them.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Use KDE on a touch device

OBSERVED RESULT

See screenshot

EXPECTED RESULT

No giant window previews when I didn't tap a taskbar icon just before. And when I make them come up intentionally, they should go away once I tap somewhere else on the screen. This doesn't seem to work reliably. I'm not aware of any workaround, which seems to make this a relatively severe issue in terms of practical impact.

Josh, do you think could this be caused by there being separate mouse and touch pointers under the hood?

For what it's worth, I've seen other applications have similar issues, e.g. tooltips show up in locations and when I tap elsewhere the tooltip just never goes away and covers screen areas. Perhaps this is a KWin issue...?
