Description Fanny 2025-12-21 16:19:53 UTC
SUMMARY
Plasma’s global shortcut system does not recognize certain non‑alphanumeric keys (such as ²) under Wayland.
It should be possible to bind layout‑specific keys (e.g. ², $, ù, etc.) as standalone global shortcuts.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. On Arch/Manjaro Linux, open System Settings → Keyboard → Shortcuts.
2. Select any application, click +Add, and attempt to assign ² as the shortcut key.

OBSERVED RESULT
Pressing ² produces no input in the shortcut recorder.
However, modified combinations such as Ctrl+² are detected correctly.

EXPECTED RESULT
The ² key should be recognized and assignable as a standalone global shortcut.
Under X11, Guake’s own preferences allowed assigning ² directly.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I have used Guake for years with ² as my toggle shortcut.
This worked flawlessly under X11 and became part of my daily workflow.

Under Wayland, Plasma’s shortcut system does not expose this key (and several other layout‑specific keys common on AZERTY keyboards), which prevents assigning them as global shortcuts.

Is there a technical reason why these single‑key shortcuts cannot currently be bound?
If a patch were proposed to support these keys, would it be considered?

Thanks for your work on Plasma and the Wayland transition.
