I guess you had too many open files? Nevertheless, the fact that this can happen seems to be a source of fragility. Moving to KWin to see if there's anything that can be done there about it.
I certainly did not have many open files. This is not triggered by opening a file anyway and happens out of the blue I don't see how spontaneous failure of plasmashell is a bug of kwin_wayland
"file" refers to file descriptors here. Are you using an Nvidia GPU? The Nvidia driver has a bug that can cause this
