Description plabs@henu.edu.cn 2025-12-12 12:58:16 UTC
KWin (KDE Window Manager) freezes intermittently during the use of the touchpad or mouse, especially when editing text.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1.Boot up the system.
2.Begin using the touchpad to move the cursor or use the mouse.
3.Start typing in a text editor (e.g., Kate, KWrite, etc.) or interact with other UI elements.
4.After some time, KWin freezes, and window manager functions become unresponsive.

OBSERVED RESULT
KWin freezes after some usage.
The graphical interface becomes unresponsive, and no input is accepted.
The system may recover after a while or require restarting the window manager (kwin_wayland --replace).

EXPECTED RESULT
KWin should not freeze during regular use.
The system should remain responsive when interacting with UI elements and using input devices like the touchpad or mouse.

Is the bug new with this version / if you downgrade KWin to 6.5.3, does it go away again?

If yes, this might be a different symptom of bug 513151

I tested with the NVIDIA proprietary (closed-source) driver. After downgrading KWin to 6.5.3, the freeze/hang issue is noticeably less frequent, but it still happens intermittently.A high-frequency trigger is right after boot/login, when I start using the touchpad (cursor movement/gestures). The device is an ASUS TUF Gaming (Tianxuan 3) laptop.
