me interacting with the global menu on plasma 6.5.4

The padding between the items in the global menu (File, Edit, View, etc) disappeared immediately after updating to Plasma 6.5.4 from 6.5.3. Rebooting did not fix it.
Hovering over it makes it come back for that specific item but then if you do anything like move away the pointer or even click on the item it disappears again, it's shown in the attached video. Not shown in the video is that the "Search" item has just stopped working completely, if I click it nothing at all happens.

Does the issue reproduce with the default Breeze global theme? And/or in a new clean user account on the same computer?

Issue persisted in my user account with default Breeze global theme. In a new user account there was no issue with the global menu.
Doing `rm -rf ~/.local/state ~/.cache` and logging out and back in for my user account fixed it somehow so I no longer have the problem.

Thanks. That means it's bug 503305.

no that's not right, in that bug it was from changing plasma style but in my situation i never changed plasma style, i've been using breeze plasma style all this time it's just the other theme settings i have different options for

and in that bug restarting plasma shell fixed the issue but for me it did nothing, only after i deleted the cache and state did the problem stop

Hmm, how confusing! Typically when margins in the cache get corrupted, it's because of theme switching. I don't think I've encountered a case before where it happened spontaneously.
