i choose column but icons are arranged in rows

I cannot reproduce, if I understood the problem well!

For your bug report I just tried to to add a new icon on the desktop but not by dragging and releasing it as that would put it exactly where I wanted, which is great, but not for this test.
So I went the the main menu (the start one, Kickoff) and right-click on a program and then I chose "Add to desktop" and it put it on a new row in my column on the left side of the screen, just like in Windows 7, as I wanted.

Maybe the problem comes from the fact that you use the X session and I use the Wayland session.
Plasma and Frameworks versions are exactly as mine,.
 Or because yourQt is newer than mine (6.9.2).
Or because your distro is different than mine (Debian 14).
Or because you're using a virtual GPU driver, which is different than mine (OpenGL on Intel UHD 620).

Can't you try on Wayland too?

Also I notice no commit or other indication as to why the issue was closed.  The incorrect (reversed) behavior is obvious and disturbing.

Excellent.  I see that the bug is now a plasmashell bug.  That seems much better than neon.

I did some searching with claude.ai to get a clue about where the bug may be located.

As I have well learned with any AI is that AI is pactically NEVER CORRECT. VM kubuntu-26-04-1-a's configuration

Got utterly bogged down with build errors on a previously working KDE Fedora deployment.

VM kubuntu-26-04-1-a's progress is stalled.  Can't get

kde-builder workspace

to get past gpgme

Thinking about setting up some kind of artifact page on sourceforge.net, since the attachments such as .qcow2 files seem to be too big to attach here.

folder: make row/column arrangement settings match actual behavior

The default "In Columns" actually causes the icons to display in rows and
and "In Rows" actually causes the icons to display in columns. In other
words, their sense is reversed.

The solution is to re-reverse "In Rows" and "In Columns", in the UI, making
"In Rows" effectively the new default setting
