SUMMARY The written support PC resource is too low for KDE Linux. As a result, the installer is unable to run or stop in the middle. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open the [Install KDE Linux / Requirements](https://kde.org/linux/install/#requirements) in your browser. 2. Create a VM with 1GB of RAM, 6GB of storage. 3. Install KDE Linux into this VM. OBSERVED RESULT With 1GB of RAM, the user can not start the installer. Even after increasing the RAM to 2GB, the installer stops in the middle due to a lack of storage space. In the KDE Linux install page, there is a description of the resources required to install KDE Linux as follows: - 1 GB of memory (more will make the system faster) - 6 GB of storage space (more than 12 will allow for system rollbacks) But these resources are too low, according to my test with the kde-linux_202511270254.raw, - 2GB of memory to run the installer. - 8GB or 9GB of storage space for initial installation. EXPECTED RESULT I recommend updating the web page. The actual required resources in the updated page are up to the technical decision of KDE. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Independent of the client platform. I think it's best for the people from KDE Linux to decide on new minimum requirements, but for now I've opened a MR to increase them to safe amounts (based on your testing). https://invent.kde.org/websites/kde-org/-/merge_requests/433
Thank you very much!
Git commit bd7aa78e1ff53308514bbe068805311a2e1666b6 by Nate Graham, on behalf of TPJ Schikhof. Committed on 05/12/2025 at 23:08. Pushed by ngraham into branch 'master'. Revise KDE Linux system requirements to be more accurate and avoid crashing installer [seiichih](https://discuss.kde.org/u/seiichih/summary) performed some tests and found that the current minimum requirements aren't accurate and result in the installer crashing This commit increases the recommended minimum requirements found during testing (2 GB memory, 10 GB storage) to avoid bad experiences from failed installations. Revise system requirements up a bit To match what was documented in https://invent.kde.org/websites/kde-org/-/merge_requests/433 Any less and apparently Calamares crashes and there's not actually enough space to install (6 GB != 6 GiB, and we're just over the line) M +2 -2 mkosi.extra/live/usr/calamares/desktop/modules/welcome.conf https://invent.kde.org/kde-linux/kde-linux/-/commit/6672599e323f11851aeb0e206c23ed14652e6b63
