SUMMARY Dolphin does not remember the default application selected for any file type. Even after choosing an app (e.g., VLC for video/mp4) and selecting “Remember the application for all files of this type”, Dolphin asks again every time a file is opened. STEPS TO REPRODUCE Open a file (e.g., a .mp4 video) in Dolphin. When prompted, select an application (e.g., VLC) and enable “Remember the application for all files of type video/mp4”. Open another file of the same type—or even the same file again. OBSERVED RESULT Dolphin prompts again asking which application to use. The chosen application is not remembered. This occurs for all file types, not just video files. EXPECTED RESULT Dolphin should remember the selected default application for the file type, and open all files of that type using that application without prompting again. Default applications are not saved despite selecting the option to remember the choice.
Thanks for the bug report. I'm not able to reproduce this in Dolphin built from git-master or 25.08.3. There are also no other reports about this. This sounds like it might be a system configuration issue. Are you able to reproduce this with a brand new user? If not, it may be a setting or cached value in your regular user that's interfering. If you can reproduce with a new user, try running dolphin from command line and see if there's any helpful output. I also encourage you to reach out to the Arch support community.
