Description kashuvjohnson+KDEbugs 2025-11-26 05:12:21 UTC
SUMMARY
When trying to duplicate my main panel I ran into a bug that freezes and eventually crashes plasmashell.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have 2 monitors.
2. Make 2 default panels or,
3. Add application launcher to two different panels.

OBSERVED RESULT
Panel becomes extremely slow, application launcher becomes extremely slow, not just slow, but intermittent freezing and barely updating once per minute. CPU usage spikes on 3 cores, you may notice CPU cooler ramping up and down. Total CPU usage quadruples. Eventually plasmashell will probably crash.

EXPECTED RESULT
Being able to have two identical panels.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Linux/KDE Plasma: CachyOS
KDE Plasma Version: 6.5.3
KDE Frameworks Version:
Qt Version:

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
As a temporary workaround, just make sure you only have a single instance of application launcher at a time.

Thanks for the crash report. As the message at the top of the summary says, if something crashed, we need a backtrace of it so we can figure out what's going on. Can you please attach a backtrace of the crash using the coredumpctl command-line program, as detailed in https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports#Retrieving_a_backtrace_using_coredumpctl ?

Also, which application launcher do you have on your panel? There's more than one shipped by default.

Thanks.
